14 DAY TRIAL // One of the big disappointments in the last two years, Sony Mobile, is about to launch yet another Android smartphone. We don’t know the name of the handset yet, but we know what it looks like since the unannounced smartphone was caught on camera in China.
According to a new report by XperiaBlog, the unknown smartphone is likely to be a sequel to the Xperia C series, which is why we expect it to belong to the phablet category.
The Xperia C6 Ultra was launched back in 2015 with a huge 6-inch full HD (1080p) display. The smartphone runs Android Lollipop operating system, and there’s no telling whether or not Sony will upgrade it to Marshmallow.
Considering the company plans to launch another smartphone in the series, we doubt Sony will upgrade the mid-range Xperia C6 Ultra, but anything is possible.
The unannounced Xperia C smartphone leaked in pictures directly from China shows a front-facing LED flash, which isn’t unusual for this series since the Xperia C6 Ultra comes with a similar feature.
Dual-SIM support and MediaTek chipset
The photo showing the display also reveals another piece of information: the upcoming smartphone will come with dual-SIM support.
Although there’s no telling the exact size of the screen, we believe the handset boasts a similar 6-inch capacitive touchscreen display.
Furthermore, the smartphone will be powered by a MediaTek chipset, which hasn’t been named yet. It won’t pack USB Type-C port. Instead, Sony has decided to include a microUSB port.
The back side features photo snapper and a small LED flash. No additional details on the main camera have been provided, but it might come with the same sensor as the Xperia C6 Ultra: 13-megapixels.
Although the smartphone is real, we can’t confirm Sony Mobile will eventually launch this mid-range phablet. We will probably know more in the next couple of months if the Japanese company is going to give the handset the green light.
