14 DAY TRIAL // Sony was present earlier this year at Consumers Electronics Show (CES) 2017, but the Japanese company did not reveal any smartphones at the trade fair. However, we expect a couple of Xperia handsets to be introduced next month at Mobile World Congress (MWC).
Some of you might remember that we reported last year about two Xperia smartphones with model numbers G3112 and G3221. At the time, we said the devices would be announced at CES, but now it's pretty clear that didn't happen, so we're hoping they will be unveiled at MWC next month.
The new information pertains to the hardware configuration that these two unannounced smartphones might benefit from. It looks like Sony plans to use MediaTek chipsets inside its devices, but they look more like mid-range rather than high-end smartphones.
If Sony launches high-end Xperia smartphones powered by MediaTek processors, we're also expecting the Japanese company to lower the cost of its products. However, the Taiwanese company producing these chipsets has been the target of many negative reports regarding the security of its products.
720p and 1080p displays coming on these phones
Two UAProf documents found by XperiaBlog prove that both G3112 and G3221 smartphones will be equipped with MediaTek Helio P20 MT6757 octa-core processors clocked at 2.3GHz.
Aside from the fact that they will be powered by MediaTek CPUs, the leaked documents also reveal that Sony G3112 will sport a 720p display, whereas the G3221 will come with a 1080p screen.
Other than that, we know nothing else about these two unannounced Xperia handsets, but as we're getting closer to MWC trade fair, we expect more information to surface online.
However, it appears that the G3112 will belong to the low-end range with its 720p display, while the G3221 will be priced much higher thanks to its better screen. In any case, we hope to get more info on these handsets in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
