Sony fans rejoice, as the Japanese company has expanded the rollout of Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to additional Xperia models.

Some of you might recall that we reported last week about Sony’s attempt to bring the long-awaited update to some Xperia smartphones and tablet. At first, Android 6.0 Marshmallow was only delivered to those devices that were part of the beta program: Xperia Z2 (D6503), Xperia Z3 (D6603) and Xperia Z3 Compact (D5803).

However, starting this week, the update should pop up on more Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 models. In addition, XperiaBlog reports Marshmallow should now be available for Xperia Z2 Tablet as well.

Aside from the models mentioned earlier, Android 6.0 Marshmallow is available for Xperia Z2 (D6502), Xperia Z3 (D6653), Xperia Z3 Dual (D6633), and Xperia Z3 Compact (D5833). As for the Xperia Z2 Tablet, the following versions are now eligible for the update: SGP511, SGP512, and SGP521.

New camera interface, Xperia Messaging, enhanced Direct Share

According to Sony Mobile, besides the usual new features and improvements included in Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the update also provides some other enhancements like enhanced privacy settings, which should allow users to manage and control their application data permissions.

Also, there a brand-new camera interface that provides users with the option to switch between modes and customize settings with simple gestures.

Furthermore, Xperia Messaging has been added too, along with improved Direct Share that enables users the ability to share activity with friends, recent contacts, and apps lists.

Obviously, new features like Doze and App Standby, both grouped under Smart battery life category, are included in the update as well.

Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update provided by Sony Mobile contains the February security patch, but there are two more patches that must be delivered to these Xperia Z series smartphones.

Keep in mind that the upgrade is now pushed OTS (over the air) in stages, so it might take a while until it reaches all devices. You can also try searching for the update via Sony PC Companion desktop software.
