Sony has just held its press conference at MWC 2017 and announced a number of innovations and new technology that it included in four new smartphones. The brand new Xperia XZ Premium has the world’s first Super slow motion video camera in a phone.

Sony says that the camera on the Xperia XZ Premium “is so advanced it captures motion that the human eye can’t see.” Sony’s new technology is called Motion Eye and it was incorporated on the XZ Premium’s 19MP camera with 4k recording capabilities.

The main camera features a memory stacked Exmor RS sensor which provides 5 times faster image scanning and data transfer. This allows users to create videos and record in 960 frames per second, with Super slow motion video playback that’s four times slower than in other phones, Sony says.

Another feature is Predictive Capture which automatically starts buffering images when it detects motion, even before the user presses the button. Moreover, the camera has 19% larger pixels and features for capturing content in low-light conditions. 4K video recording, predictive hybrid autofocus and SteadyShot technology are also found on the camera.

Impressive 5.5-inch 4k HDR display and 4GB of RAM

Xperia XZ Premium runs the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, which offers up to 1Gbps download speeds. RAM capacity is 4GB with 64GB of internal storage, which can be expanded to 265GB using a microSD card. The phone will draw power from a 3,230mAh battery with fast charging and battery care. Xperia XZ Premium has a 13MP front camera with 22mm wide angle lens and runs Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box.

The display on the Xperia XZ Premium is truly stunning, a 5.5-inch 4K HDR screen with dynamic contrast enhancement for delivering crisp content. The premium smartphone also comes with IP68 certification against water and dust damages. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 coating was placed on the display and back panel for enhanced protection.

A fingerprint sensor will be embedded in the power button, but only for variants sold in certain countries. Aside from this, the Xperia XZ Premium has a USB Type-C port and the phone should arrive this spring, as detailed availability and pricing weren’t revealed. The phone will be made available in Luminous Chrome and Deepsea Black variants.
