No word on what the company might unveil next month

Japanese company Sony Mobile is a constant presence at Mobile World Congress (MWC), so it makes sense for the handset maker to announce a press event at the trade fair.

According to the invitation sent to the media, Sony’s press conference at MWC 2016 will take place on February 22, a few days after Samsung's Unpacked event.

Unfortunately, the invite does not reveal anything about what Sony might announce next month at MWC 2016, so we can only speculate on the matter.

Sony Mobile usually announces its first flagship smartphone in Q1 each year, and MWC was the main event used by the Japanese company to unveil its most powerful device for the first half of the year.

However, Sony's mobile division has been bleeding money since forever, which is one of the reasons we might see fewer Xperia smartphones launched on the market.

One or more Xperia smartphones might be announced

At some point, there were many rumors running around claiming Sony will only launch one flagship smartphone per year, but that did not happen yet.

We're unsure what Sony Mobile's strategy for 2016 and the years to come is, which makes the upcoming press conference even more significant for fans.

Few details about an unannounced Xperia smartphones emerged and we don't know anything about the Xperia Z6, which should be Sony's next flagship.

Naturally, there's still time for us to get some info on any of the smartphones that Sony plans to launch next month, but that depends on how willing the Japanese company will be to leak these details to the press.

The good news is we can expect a few Xperia smartphones to be unveiled by Sony at Mobile World Congress, but we don't know whether or not the Japanese company will announce its flagship handset in late February.
