Sony announced today the third installment of its full-frame mirrorless camera line-up, the Sony a7 III (model ILCE-7M3), which packs latest technologies and innovations into a compact body.

Designed to rival some of the top DSLRs out there, the Sony a7 III introduces a newly developed 35mm (full-frame) 24.2MP back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS image sensor that offers emerged image processing capabilities and a wider ISO range of ISO 100 to ISO 51200, which can be expanded to ISO 50 and ISO 204800 for still images.

The camera also incorporates world-class AF (Auto Focus) system with no less than 693 phase-detection AF points designed to cover approximately 93 percent of the image area, as well as 425 contrast AF points, 15-Stop dynamic range for low sensitivities, 5-axis 5-step in-body optical image stabilization, and a faster Eye AF function.

"Sony has created a new tool that gives all types of creators – from enthusiast to professional – the ability to capture content in new and different ways than they ever have before," said Sony. "Sony’s newest full-frame camera is equipped with a variety of enhanced capabilities that were first implemented in the α9 and then again in the α7R III."

Continuous shooting at up to 10 fps, 4K video recording, and more

If the higher ISO range or the enhanced AF speed and performance don't impress you, you should know that Sony a7 III features continuous shooting capabilities at up to 10 fps with either the silent shooting mode or the mechanical shutter. It also comes with the ability to output images in the 14 bit RAW format and full AF/AE tracking.

Another strong point of the Sony a7 III is its 4K video recording capabilities. Sony says that it tried to implement a high-resolution 4K movie shooting mode into its latest full-frame mirrorless camera with full pixel readout, but without pixel binning across full-width of the sensor. There's also a new HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) picture profile with Instant HDR support.

The Sony a7 III full-frame mirrorless camera packs the longest rated battery life of any mirrorless camera on the market, says Sony. The battery in the Sony a7 III has been evaluated to support up to 710 shots per charge. The battery can be charged with the BC-QZ1 battery charger or via the SuperSpeed USB Type-C port.

Last but not least, Sony a7 III brings a joystick to allow photographers to more easily and quickly adjust the focus points, dual SD card slots, and Sony’s new "Imaging Edge" software suite. Sony says that its brand-new Sony a7 III full-frame mirrorless camera is coming to Europe next month with a price tag of €2300 for the body or €2500 for a kit with the Sony FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS lens.
