The smartphones appear to restart for no apparent reason

Just a few days ago, Samsung issued a software update to fix the red tint display issue on some Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ units. The company previously emphasized that the issue wasn’t caused by a hardware problem.

The software update brought more display color settings for Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones that were affected by an issue causing a red discoloration to the display. However, some owners are complaining on forums about a new problem.

It appears that some Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ units restart for no apparent reason. Users claim their devices restart several times a day, but they have found a temporary fix. It’s believed that microSD cards are causing the issue, so the fix involves removing the card from the device. However, it’s worth mentioning that some have reported the issue even without having a microSD card placed inside the phone.

The issue seems to appear in a number of scenarios

Other users have noticed that the issue could be caused by a bug in the lock or Always-On Display screen, together with the power save feature. Some have said that the issue occurred even in safe mode, while others said that the fingerprint and iris scanner could be conflicting and causing the phone to freeze and then restart.

One user who reported the restart issue mentioned that a Samsung representative recommended the phone be sent back to the retailer who sold it for a replacement. Users who are experiencing the problem should most certainly contact Samsung’s support team, but the company is most likely working on finding a fix, which should arrive soon enough.

At this point, it’s clear that the root cause of the random restarts is unknown, while Samsung could perhaps issue an over-the-air fix soon, as it happened with the red tint problem a few days ago. Samsung issued a software update for the red tint problem faced by users in Korea, and Galaxy S8 units from Europe started receiving the update too.
