14 DAY TRIAL // Ridley Scott's “The Martian” opened in theaters about a week and a half ago. Based on a novel by Andy Weir, it's pure science fiction from beginning to end. The thing is that, as it turns out, the fiction part is so convincing that some thought the movie to be based on real events.
Not one to let an opportunity like this go by, one Kyle Douglas started a GoFundMe campaign asking for money to save Matt Damon from Mars. Because, you know, what easier way to make some dough is there than cash in on people's ignorance?

In a mission statement of sorts for his fundraising campaign, Kyle Douglas explains how Matt Damon is one of the greatest actors alive and how we need to get him back, otherwise there won't be another “Bourne” movie.
Then, his BFF Ben Affleck desperately needs him there by his side now that he's going through a divorce. For all that's sacred, let us bring Matt home, Kyle Douglas pleads.
“One of the greatest actors in Hollywood is currently trapped on Mars after a failed exploration. We need Matt back on earth because he is due to be in another 'Bourne' movie.”
“Matt is also a loyal friend to another Hollywood great Ben Affleck who needs Matt Damon's support as he goes through a divorce. Failing to bring Matt back could be devistating to our American life and will have a devastating impact on film if we don't rescue Matt,” he reasons.
People have actually donated
Kyle Douglas' GoFundMe campaign aims to raise $99 million (€87 million). As of now, it's landed a measly $86 (€76). It's not much, but it's reassuring to know that there are people out there who care about rescuing Matt Damon from Mars.
True, the actor isn't really stranded on the Red Plant and so this campaign is bogus, but you'll be glad to hear the money will not go to waste. Au contraire, Kyle Douglas says he plans to donate whatever money he does raise to Matt Damon's Water.org charity.
