Just a few minutes ago, Softpedia was informed by Ikey Doherty from the Solus Project about the general availability of the Budgie 10.2.7 desktop environment for the Solus Linux-based operating system and other supported OSes.

Two months have passed since the release of Budgie 10.2.6, the previous maintenance update that you are most probably using on your Solus box, that if you have the latest software updates installed, and now we have the great pleasure of presenting to you the next major release of the user-friendly Budgie desktop environment.

According to the release notes written by renowned Solus developer Joshua Strobl today, September 10, 2016, the biggest new features implemented in Budgie 10.2.7 are improvements to the keyboard layout indicator, which means that multi-lingual support is enhanced (in other words, it's easier to switch between multiple languages).

A dedicated Raven Sidebar Control has been added as well to let you quickly access the Applets View in the Raven notification center, and there's a new User Indicator so you can more easily access the most common system functions, such as restart, logout, lock, shutdown, or even suspend.

"Our Budgie panel applets used a mix of left and right click. This is no longer the case, with all actions utilizing left-click, and we’ve introduced more popovers to enable quick access to settings exposed elsewhere on your system, such as launching power settings via the battery / power applet," says Joshua Strobl.

On-Screen Display support, Icon Tasklist improvements

The list of goodies that you'll get if you update to Budgie 10.2.7 continues with  automatic icon size scaling and an enforced aspect ratio of 1:1.1 for the Icon Tasklist, better support for the icons of various open source apps and games, and a bunch of enhancements to the Raven notification center, such as media player access.

On-Screen Display (OSD) has been added as well (finally, right?), and your Budgie desktop will now show you some cool sliders with gorgeous artwork when you are changing the volume or brightness levels. Of course, there are also many performance improvements to the window manager and other core components.

We invite you to take a look at the videos attached below if you want to see the new OSD in action, as well as to visit the official announcement for more screenshots of the new features listed above. In the meantime, feel free to install the Budgie 10.2.7 desktop environment right now on your Solus computer because it's already in the repos. Enjoy!
