Hybrid graphics is about to be a thing in Solus

Solus Project's Josh Strobl is back with another installation of the "This Week in Solus" newsletter, letting the community know about what landed in the Solus operating system this week and what the team's plans are for the future of the project.

It looks like a lot of things are happening in the Solus world, and the developers are currently planning some branding changes for some of the in-house built projects, an entirely stateless Solus 2.0 release, along with an improved out-of-the-box desktop experience featuring a Budgie Desktop tweaked to your heart's content.

"As we all know, the goal of Solus 2.0 is to be entirely stateless. We should ship sane default without relying on an overlap of domains between our configuration and your configuration, ensuring the default OS itself is immutable, and that there is no conflict between the vendor and local site admin configuration," said the Solus devs.

The next version of the Budgie Desktop promises great new features, among which we can mention support for enabling and disabling the desktop icons, support for tweaking fonts for "Window Titles," "Documents," "Interface," as well as "Monospace," Bluetooth support, and the ability to use multiple audio input and output devices.

Among other general improvements and new features that are about to land soon on the Solus Linux operating system we can mention support for computers with hybrid graphics, more improvements to the system fonts, better multilib support, which should provide for a smoother experience with apps like Steam and Skype.

Solus OS is now powered by Linux kernel 4.4.6 LTS

Of course, Solus OS users are used to being the first to have the latest software versions, and during the week that just passed, the developers added Linux kernel 4.4.6 LTS, Mozilla Firefox 45.0.1, Mozilla Thunderbird 38.7.0, Nmap 7.10, Transmission 2.92, youtube-dl 2016.03.14, Git 2.7.3, Atom 1.6.0, HexChat 2.12.0, and Geany 1.27.

Additionally, software like CodeBlocks 16.01, Erlang 18.3, FocusWriter 1.5.5, Glances 2.6, Node.JS 5.9.0, QTox 1.3.0, Telegram 0.9.33, and Toxcore 3747 also landed in the software repositories of Solus 1.1. Lastly, OPUS support has been added to VLC Media Player, and the PulseAudio sound server now has stateless support.

Oh, and we almost forgot to tell you that the "Delete Permanently" option has been backported from upstream into the Nautilus file manager. If you haven't updated your Solus operating system in the last week or so, you need to do it right now to get all the goodies mentioned above. Happy Solusing!
