14 DAY TRIAL // The development cycle for Solus OS is powering on, and its developers are still making important improvements and changes to it. They recently upgraded the Linux kernel once more, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Solus is a new operating system build from scratch that's using a new desktop environment named Budgie. It's so fresh that the project doesn't have a stable release just yet, and it's still undergoing important changes. Technically, we should see a final version in the coming months, but it's not clear whether the project is entering some sort of feature freeze anytime soon.
The fact that the Linux kernel is still getting updates, along with other critical components, means that the developers are still working on improving it, and it's likely we'll see even more changes. It seems that the addition of daily ISOs to the project has changed the dynamics, and here’s what's happening in much greater detail.
Solus OS now comes with Linux kernel 4.1.2 LTS
A new kernel update has been made for Solus OS, and it looks like the developers are aiming to integrate the latest and most advanced kernel possible. Also, quite a few other packages have been updated as well.
"In this release, we feature several key updates, along with the 4.1.2 LTS Linux Kernel and Firefox 39.0. We’ve also taken our steps towards being a stateless OS," wrote Ikey Doherty, the leader of the Solus OS project.
According to the changelog, LightDM has been upgraded to version 1.15.0, the LightDM GTK Greeter is now at version 2.0.1, the GNOME Terminal experience has been refined, GTK+ 3.16.5 is now used by default, Mozilla Thunderbird is now at version 38.1.0, and a few other changes have been implemented.
