The packaging experience has been improved as well

Josh Strobl from the Solus Project today, April 3, 2016, announced the twenty-fifth installation of the "This Week in Solus" weekly newsletter for users of the Solus Linux operating system, informing them about the latest changes.

It looks like Solus OS received some extra Budgie Desktop improvements, such as support for GNOME Terminal notifications in the Raven notification and customization center, as well as a couple of Icon Tasklist enhancements. Moreover, the packaging experience has been brought to a new level of ease and simplicity.

"Previously, you would need to use a component.xml file to define which component the package would belong to (whether that be desktop, graphics, programming, etc). Now, you are able to define that right in our package.yml file. Less files, less work, less for you to have to remember! I’d call that a win," the Solus OS devs have explained.

Several new packages have been added to the Solus Linux repos, such as GNOME Music 3.18.2, breeze-cursor-theme and breeze-snow-cursor-theme from the upstream KDE Plasma 5.6.1 desktop environment, the Ubuntu font (font-ubuntu-ttf), MyPaint 1.2.0, as well as GOM 0.3.2.

Many packages were updated to their latest versions

Among the packages that have been updated and are now live in the main Solus OS repositories, we can mention ALSA 1.1.1, Atom 1.6.2, GNOME Calendar 3.18.3, Gnumeric 1.12.28, SMPlayer 16.4.0, qBittorrent 3.3.4, MKVToolNix 9.0.1, PostgreSQL 9.5.2, PHP 7.0.5, node.js 5.10.0, LLVM 3.8.0, and Ruby 2.2.4.

Additionally, udisks 2.1.7, ypkg 7.0, grilo 0.2.15 and grilo-plugins 0.2.17, gvfs 1.28.0, libgoffice 0.10.28, libvte 0.42.5, hal-flash 0.3.3, and Vertex GTK theme 20160329 have also landed, along with a couple of GNOME Terminal improvements and Tracker enhancements, so please update your Solus Linux installation as soon as possible.
