14 DAY TRIAL // The Manjaro community, through team leader Philip Müller, has been happy to inform all users of the Manjaro Linux 15.12 (Capella) operating system that a patch is now available for the zero-day Linux kernel vulnerability reported earlier.
Manjaro Linux comes in second to remove the infamous zero-day kernel vulnerability, after Canonical's announcement earlier today, January 19, 2016, regarding the patches for all of its supported Ubuntu Linux operating systems, including Ubuntu 15.10, Ubuntu 15.04, and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
At this point, the Manjaro team has released a patch for the Linux 4.1 LTS packages, which are used in the distribution, but the rest of the supported kernels will also receive it. Therefore, all Manjaro Linux users are urged to update their systems to today's Manjaro Sec-Update 2016-01-19 (stable) update as soon as possible.
"We are happy to announce our default kernel (linux41) for Manjaro Bellatrix and Capella is patched against the Zero-Day Linux Kernel Vulnerability," says Philip Müller on behalf of the Manjaro Development Team. "We recommend to upgrade to that kernel as soon as possible. Our other kernel series will follow."
Solus 1.0 has also been patched today against the zero-day vulnerability
On the other hand, the Solus developers inform us that the patch for the zero-day Linux kernel vulnerability has landed in the stable repositories of the Solus 1.0 "Shannon" operating system. At the moment of writing this article, Solus 1.0 remains powered by Linux kernel 4.3.3, but we do hope that the newer Linux 4.4 LTS kernel will land soon in the repos.
Of course, more GNU/Linux distribution vendors will be quick to patch the kernel packages of their operating systems today or in the coming days (the faster, the better), and we're urging all users to check for updates regularly and apply them as soon as they're out. Don't forget to reboot after any kernel update!
