Snapdragon’s 600 series is most of the times overlooked

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 600 series isn’t as popular as the Snapdragon 800 family, which has seen a lot of coverage as of late due to the constant overheating issues the premium Snapdragon 810 model has been plagued with.

But that doesn’t mean Snapdragon 600 chips can’t deliver advanced performance; make no mistake, they are pretty capable. We’ve seen the Snapdragon 615 power a bunch of mid-range to high-end devices, and the silicone piece has been doing a pretty swell job. Qualcomm is also working on improving its series, and to that end, it is prepping the Snapdragon 620 model.

Gizmo China reports that the Snapdragon 620 has been spotted in benchmarks showing how well it can perform. Actually, as you can see for yourself in the gallery below, the results are comparable to the ones produced by the Snapdragon 810 inside the Xiaomi Mi Note Pro.

The Snapdragon 620 takes advantage of Cortex A72 cores

The Snapdragon 620 managed to snatch 1,513 points in the single-core test and 4,051 points in the multi-core test. By comparison, the Snapdragon 810 managed to hit 1,227 points in the single-core test and 4,424 points in the multi-core one.

As for the other reputable chipset available on the market today, the Exynos 7420, which is currently powering the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, it managed to score 1,486 points in the single-core test, which is still less than what the Snapdragon 620 was able to do. In the multi-core test, the results reached the 5,284 point threshold.

The Snapdragon 620 is poised to make a debut into the wild with four Cortex A72 cores clocked at 1.8GHz inside, which explains why the chip is performing so well. The other four cores making up the octa-core setup are of the 1.2GHz A53 variety.

It should also be noted that the SoC is limited to LPDDR3 RAM support, but even so, it’s a pretty interesting exponent of the Qualcomm 600 series. Hopefully, we won’t see any overheating problems with this silicone piece as in the case of the Snapdragon 810.

The Snapdragon 620 spotted in benchmarks was running on a prototype device with Android 5.1 Lollipop on board and 3GB of RAM.
