14 DAY TRIAL // Many Skype users probably remember the day of September 21, when all Skype services were offline. Even though Microsoft apologized and offered an explanation for the outage, the fact still remains that many users were affected by the issue.
Less than a month after the dreaded outage, Microsoft has issued another apology, but this time it's directed to Skype users.
Besides the formal letter that Microsoft has sent to Skype users in the last couple of days, the Redmond-based company is also offering some free calls to those affected by the outage.
“To make it up to you, over the next few days we will add 20 minutes of free calls to over 60 landline and 8 mobile destinations around the world,” says Skype in an official letter.
According to the company, “on September 21, we experience an issue that prevented us from delivering out mission. We're sorry for the technical issue we suffered that day. We know how important our service is to you and how frustrating outages like this can be. We also know that sometimes saying sorry just isn't enough.”
The free calls are only available to use for 7 days
Last month, immediately after the outage, Skype stated that they had released a larger-than-usual configuration change, which some versions of Skype couldn't process correctly. That's the reason many Skype users were disconnected from the network.
This is why Microsoft has decided to redeem itself by offering Skype users 20 minutes of free calls to over 60 landlines and 8 mobile destinations.
If you are one of the many Skype users who have receive those minutes of free calls, then you should know they will only be available to use for 7 days.
In case you don't use Skype and don't have an account, you won't be able to benefit from these 20 minutes of free calls.
