14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has just released a major update for its Skype application for both Android and iOS platforms. Since we have already reported on the iOS version of Skype earlier today, let's see what new features and improvements the Android app comes with.
First of all, developers have confirmed that they have redesigned the Android application from ground up. Inspired by Google's Material Design concept, the new Skype 6.0 is even easier to use on Android handsets.
“We’ve redesigned Skype to be much more natural and intuitive, and have added a bunch of new capabilities to make it even more delightful to use,” the developers explain.
In addition, the Skype team added a new floating action button, which is supposed to make it much simpler to start a new conversation, whether the user is starting a video call, audio call, chat, or sending a video message.
Another improvement included in the latest version of Skype is enhanced search. Thanks to a new upgraded search algorithm, users will be able to find their most important contacts and conversations much faster than before.

Also, the newest update should bring improved messaging. This means that Skype users will be able to see how many unread messages they have much quicker. It appears that developers made it easier to identify what's read and what's not.
Some of these new features have been added to the iOS version as well, but the important thing is Skype continues to receive important updates that bring major improvements.
“We have been publishing frequent updates to Skype for Android, adding new features such as custom ringtones, photo sharing, and web link previews,” says the Skype Team in a blog post.
You can now download Skype for Android 6.0 for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 4.0 and up.
