Users recommended to install the previous Skype version

Skype users have recently discovered a bug in the Windows version of the client that breaks down conversations and changes the order of the displayed messages.

Posts on Microsoft’s support forums for Skype reveal that a number of users running the latest version of the Skype for Windows client are seeing a bug that makes their last messages appear above the ones received from their contacts. Here’s how one of the users whose Skype install got impacted by the bug describes the situation:

“So I have the latest version of skype but when I get a msg from someone or I reply to a msg no matter what my msgs are always above the msgs of the person I’m talking to, Iv put up with this for a few weeks but it’s really annoying.”

A known issue, downgrade recommended

Microsoft explains this is a known issue in the latest version of Skype and recommends users to downgrade to the previous release of the app until a fix is provided.

“This is unfortunately a known problem for some users of Skype for Windows with the very latest version 7.17.0.105 - As a temporary workaround while we are working on an updated version with a fix please download and install the previous version,” the company says.

At this point, it’s not yet known when the new version of Skype could arrive, but expect it to be released sometime in the next few days. Other versions of Skype, such as the ones aimed at mobile devices running Android or iOS, are not impacted by the bug.

If you’re seeing the same bug on your PC too, just go ahead and download the old version of Skype to correct it until the patch arrives (make sure you select the alternate download link in the list you see here in order to get the previous release).
