On the same day Apple launched OS X 10.11, Microsoft released a new Skype version designed to offer improved support for El Capitan and to help OS X users take advantage of the new Split View multi-tasking feature added to the latest operating system launched by Apple.

As stated in a blog post by The Skype Team, the main focus of the Skype 7.13 version is to make sure that the app works flawlessly on Apple's El Capitan.

Moreover, with the help of the Split View feature, OS X users should be able to do two things at once, to talk to their family and friends using Skype, and use a web browser to plan ahead when going on a vacation at the same time.

Skype 7.13 also adds a simpler way to add all your friends that use Microsoft's telecommunications app to your own contacts list.

To do that, you have to go to Contacts and click on "Add Contacts" which will display a dialog allowing you to add the people in your Mac's address book with a simple click of a button.

This Skype release also fixes a crash on quit issue affecting users of older versions

The new Skype release also fixes a bug plaguing OS X users of previous versions where the app would crash on quit. Hopefully, Microsoft has completely removed the bug in the Skype 7.13 version and users will no longer have to send crash reports to Apple.

Even if this is a stability and bug fix version, there are still known issues left to fix in future Skype releases such as a downgrade in performance for conversations that take place on Macs running El Capitan with large numbers of participants.
