Mobile platforms are the main target for Intel at Gamescom

After launching the Skylake-S series this August at Gamescom, rumors and leaks about future Intel plans and roadmaps started to run wild on the Internet, bringing mostly great news.

Although everybody knew that the Skylake-Us would replace the current Broadwells for laptops, the exact models, lineup and SKU plans were still hidden from the pesky eyes of bloggers and media. Not anymore. Released by Fanless Tech, three new SKU summary images show the new 15-watt Skylake-U series that will replace the old Core i3-5000 series.

It was not a secret that the Skylake-U processors would come shortly after the August release of Skylake-S, but these units won’t probably be the favorite processing units for mobile platforms, for the simple fact that much more powerful and cost-effective processing solutions will arrive from Intel in the course of next year.

Apparently, Intel dedicated a lot of surprises to mobile platforms at Gamescom, announcing that Xeons would be available for laptops as well, and to really put the cherry on the cake, it revealed that Intel Core "K" models would also be available for gaming laptops.

This shows the massive switch the industry is making these days towards the mobile gaming platforms, while PC sales are having one of the worst periods in years. To keep in touch with the previous rumors, it's believed that the new low-TDP, laptop-friendly CPUs will arrive somewhere around the first half of 2016.
