A Puppy Linux derivative built around LXDE

As reported at the beginning of July, David Purse, the developer of the Simplicity Linux distribution, announced the release and immediate availability for download of the final version of his Simplicity Linux 15.7 operating system on July 30, 2015.

Unfortunately, users couldn't download the new Simplicity Linux 15.7 ISO images at that point in time due to some issues with the hosting server. Today, August 2, we can report that Simplicity Linux 15.7 Final is finally available for download (see the link at the end of the article).

Being based on LXPup, a Puppy Linux derivative, Simplicity Linux 15.7 is distributed as a special (read: experimental) X edition, as well as the regular Desktop and Netbook flavors, both of them being available for download as two Live CD ISO images with support for 32-bit and 64-bit hardware architectures. However, please note that the X edition supports only 32-bit instruction set architectures.

While the 32-bit ISO images of both the Desktop and Netbook editions are powered by Linux kernel 4.0.4, the 64-bit ISOs are currently shipped with the Linux 4.0.2 kernel. On the other hand, the experimental X edition of Simplicity Linux 15.7 comes with the long-term supported Linux 4.1.1 LTS kernel.

"And if you are feeling a bit adventurous you might want to give our experimental version, X Edition a try, available only for 32 bit processors it comes with the 4.1.1 kernel and even though some features may not be complete, this is our testing ground and you will get to test awesome features that might make it to our main editions in the future," says David Purse. "All editions of Simplicity Linux are based on LXPup."

Each edition comes with interesting apps

As you might know, the Netbook edition Simplicity Linux 15.7 is the lightest and focuses on cloud-based apps, but it includes the Google Chrome web browser by default. On the other hand, the Desktop edition is the full-featured version that includes mature apps like Mozilla Thunderbird, LibreOffice, and even a Spotify client.
