Silk Road makes another appearance, but will it last?

A new instance of the infamous Silk Road marketplace has popped up on the Dark Web today, and this new version, dubbed Silk Road 3.0, is actually the fourth reincarnation of the site.

Announced via a Reddit thread a few hours ago, Silk Road 3.0 is run by the same person in charge of the competing Crypto Market portal. The two portals are actually sharing the same support forum, also hosted on the Dark Web.

Registration is currently open, and the marketplace has already started filling up with stolen data, exploits, botnets, drugs, weapons, and about anything else that's illegal under the sun.

Silk Road 3.0 is actually Silk Road 4.0

The original Silk Road launched in February 2011 and was shut down by the summer of 2013, following a series of FBI raids that captured many of the site's users, moderators, and even its admin Ross Ulbricht.

Silk Road 2.0 popped up in November 2013, but the feds quickly arrested its admins a month later.

In November 2014, somebody attempted to bring back Silk Road once again, but by January 2016, the site went dark after it failed to attract new users.

The new Silk Road lacks trust

This new initiative is almost certain doomed as well, since following the highly publicized takedowns of the first two Silk Road portals, no criminal in their right mind would ever register an account on the site again.

The only thing the portal has on its side is the reputation of the Crypto Market owner, who's been running his site for a while now without any incidents.

Currently, the Dark Web's most popular marketplaces include portals such as Alphabay, Dream Market, The Real Deal, Zocalo, Valhalla, Hansa Market, Acropolis, Python Market, Oasis Market, Bloomsfield, German-Plaza, Darknet Heroes League, The Majestic Garden, the aforementioned Crypto Market, and a few other more.
