Rapper Iggy Azalea has been having a rough time in the media and online, but she’s not about to start making new friends if she picks on Britney Spears. The two, as you probably know, collaborated on a track called “Pretty Girls,” which also got an official music video in May 2015.

Despite featuring 2 of the best-selling pop artists of the moment, the song failed to burn up the charts as expected. Visibility for it was high, including an appearance and performance at the Billboard Awards 2015, but somehow it still failed to catch on.

If you’re looking for anyone to blame for that, blame Britney, Iggy says.

Iggy throws Britney under the bus, because why not

The Daily Beast reports that the Australian rapper took part in a brief Twitter Q&A, in which one fan asked her about her thoughts on “Pretty Girls” flopping “a little bit.” It’s not so much that the song failed to be noticed, but rather that, considering the names on it, it delivered a painfully underwhelming performance.

Iggy believes Britney could have put in a bit more effort to promote it. Scratch that: Britney should have done her part to promote it. “its difficult to send a song up the charts without addition promo and tv performances etc. unforfunately im just featured…,” she writes.

She may say now that she’s “just” the featuring act on “Pretty Girls,” but that’s not the tune she was singing before release, when she called the track a “duet”: neither her nor Britney was top-billed and the other a featuring act, both had contributed in equal measure to it.

To the haters, Iggy adds: “my comment is factual, it applies to any song. I dont have to suck the womans [expletive]hole 24/7 to be her friend, do i? bye girls.”

By this moment, as you can tell, the Britney fans were already on her case, accusing her of blaming Britney for something that wasn’t even up to her. The reality behind the flop is that the song was simply not that good.

Britney is the queen of shade

Even if Britney were to be blamed for not promoting the song enough, it’s unprofessional for Iggy to say so publicly. The fact that this comes from a rapper who has a history of blaming others for her professional failures is only more infuriating.

Plus, it’s not like Britney’s MO of recent years isn’t well known: she may be the Princess of Pop and she may be one of the hottest selling pop stars, but she rarely does interviews to promote her work, relying more on her fanbase and the media to get the word out.

Britney doesn’t do well in interviews, even though all are conducted in a very controlled environment to narrow chances of mishaps occurring. She runs fewer risks if she doesn’t do any, her management has long decided. So far, it’s proved to be a successful recipe.

However, that’s not to say that she will have Iggy trash her on social media. Available below is the tweet she posted after the rapper’s comments went viral: it seems innocent at first, but considering Iggy canceled her planned tour a short while ago because there was no interest in it, it’s actually a delicious serving of shade.

Her fans seem to believe that, at least.
