Shia LaBeouf has been rushed to the hospital when a stunt for “American Honey,” now shooting in North Dakota, went “horribly wrong” and he ended up with deep cuts on his head and hand, Gossip Cop reports.

According to his publicist, Shia is expected to return on set soon.

Shia put his head through a glass window

Reports online note that this might not entirely be accurate, since the injuries he sustained were pretty severe, requiring 20 stitches and 13 staples. Apparently, he was supposed to put his head through a glass window but something went wrong, and he cut himself deeply on the head / face and hand.

Additional stitches were needed for one of his fingers.

Assuming all the cuts were in areas easily hidden by makeup and wigs, he might be back to work as early as his publicist suggests.

“Shia LaBeouf sustained minimal injuries late last night on the set of his current film, ‘American Honey’,” reads the official statement. “As protocol, production sought out medical attention and Shia received stitches on his hand and for a laceration on his head. He is due back on set [Thursday].”

For the record, if you get the feeling that the publicist is playing down the injuries, it’s not unheard of. Management and movie studios usually do that because they don’t want to lose financial backers. In many cases, actors admitted to the severity of the injuries after the production wrapped and they were already promoting it.

Acting can be a dangerous job

Many actors who insist on doing their own stunts, whether more complex or less challenging like this one was, run the risk of injuring themselves, even with all the precautions taken by a professional stunt team.

They still do it, though, because they want to deliver an all-round performance, and to some extent, to prove they’re more than just a guy or gal standing in front of the camera repeating lines.

Tom Cruise, for instance, strapped himself to a flying military plane for the upcoming “Mission Impossible” film and admitted that it was the most dangerous stunt he’d ever done, running serious risks of bodily harm.

Also recently, Jake Gyllenhaal was hospitalized and needed surgery after punching a real-life mirror for a scene in “Nightcrawler,” because he became too involved in what his character was experiencing and forgot his safety for a second.
