Shazam has started rolling out an update for its Android app, one that brings some additional functionality to the service, which is quite useful and makes it easier to identify songs playing in the background. The feature has been available for iOS for quite some time.

Shazam for Android has recently gotten a major update with an automatic listening feature that makes it easier to identify songs. Specifically, users don’t need to tap the Shazam button to open the app and identify the song that’s playing in the background.

Thus, they don’t lose any time with unlocking the phone, searching for the Shazam app, waiting for it to open, and then tapping the button to identify songs. This process takes mere seconds, but the song could be over before Shazam manages to identify it.

The auto mode runs in the background unless it’s disabled

The auto mode is always turned on, and it records the songs that are playing in the background at any time. The mode is available in the new update, and users simply need to activate it inside the app, right on the main screen. The background service identifies songs playing in the background and automatically adds them to the “My Shazam” tabs so that users can check them out later.

The added feature still allows users to open the app and get an instant ID, if they need to. With all services running in the background, the issue of battery consumption is the first thing that comes to mind.

Shazam says the auto mode is “battery friendly,” but that surely has many meanings. The best-case scenario is that battery consumption is limited, but it could also mean that the auto mode could prevent the phone from going into deep sleep.

The feature was introduced to the app on iOS quite a few years ago, but it has only recently come to Android. Shazam is available on Google Play store for Android running devices.
