14 DAY TRIAL // Selena Gomez is the latest celebrity that got hacked, with a bunch of nude photos of Justin Bieber posted on the singer’s Instagram account.
While the majority of celeb hacks targeted iCloud accounts as part of the famous Fappening saga, in the case of Selena Gomez the target was her Instagram account, which somehow got breached on Monday.
No leak took place this time, as it typically happened in the Fappening scandal, but the hacker did post a bunch of nude photos of Justin Bieber that were quickly removed after the singer regained access to account.
The nude photos, however, are not part of a stolen photo dump, as they were previously posted online in 2015 when Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber were dating. Censored photos were at that point published by several blogs and tabloids, but uncensored versions also reached the web.
Variety claims that the photos published on the hacked Instagram account of Selena Gomez are part of this uncensored batch.
Hacked Instagram account
While no details were provided on the way Selena Gomez was hacked, there’s a good chance the singer was a victim of a phishing attack tricking her into providing the login credentials for the Instagram account.
Phishing scams rely on websites that look legitimate and prompt users to provide their login information for various accounts, only to collect them and send the data to the hackers. This method has been around for a long time, but it’s still making victims worldwide, especially because the attacks are becoming more complex and phishing sites are harder to detect.
Selena Gomez is currently one of the most popular Instagram users, having more than 125 million followers. No other posts were published by the hackers and no data or any other information was compromised following the attack, with the singer recovering the account shortly after the breach. There’s also no information as to the individual or hacking group behind the attack.
