14 DAY TRIAL // Well-known games publisher and developer SEGA has just announced the immediate availability of its Sonic Runners game to all Android and iOS users worldwide.
The 2D side-scrolling infinite runner was first launched in Japan back in February, but beginning today it can be downloaded from anywhere in the world.
According to SEGA, the new Sonic title has been created exclusively for mobile by the Sonic Team. The game features Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, as playable characters.
In Sonic Runners, players race through a challenging endless world where they must navigate the high-speed environment to collect rings and gems, while at the same time they are forced to avoid enemies from all directions.
The game also provides players with complete boss battles against the infamous Dr. Eggman as they make their way through the storyline all in order to save the planet’s animals.
Just like in any other endless runner, the longer a player advances, the more their speed increases, thus setting records to compete with friends and opponents worldwide.
There are four categories in which players have to compete, as well as get a rank and set records: “Rival League”, “Friend,” “World,” and “Historical.”

It's also worth mentioning that Sonic and his friends can be equipped with Chao and companions to add bonuses like speed, gem collection, and more.
Developers also confirmed that Sonic fans can look forward to special missions, new characters and buddies, in-game events and additional announcements coming soon.
“Sonic Runners marks a return to the classic 2D styling that fans around the world love, with refined and perfected gameplay experience packed with a high-speed punch that is equal parts challenging and fun.
“As our first game exclusively developed for mobile devices, we are thrilled with the outcome, which combines the classic challenge of a side-scrolling platformer with an endless runner,” said Takashi Iizuka, head of Sonic Team.
You can now download Sonic Runners for Android for free via Google Play Store. The game should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 2.3.3 and up.
For iOS users, the game is available for download for free through App Store. It should work smoothly on all devices running iOS 8.0 or later.
