14 DAY TRIAL // The openSUSE Project, through Douglas DeMaio, has announced the immediate availability for download and testing of the second Milestone build towards the openSUSE 42.1 Leap operating system.
openSUSE 42.1 Leap Milestone 2 has many updated packages, among which we can mention Linux kernel 4.1.6 LTS, kernel-firmware 20150715, Mozilla Firefox 40, Mozilla Thunderbird 38.2, Git 2.5.0, digiKam 4.11, and the KDE Plasma 15.04.3 suite, which includes the long-term supported KDE Plasma Workspaces 4.11.21 desktop environment.
Additionally, the GNU Compiler Collection 4.8.5, Binutils 2.25, GDB (GNU Debugger) 7.9.1, CMake 3.3.1, PostgreSQL 9.3.8, MariaDB 10.0.20, Samba 4.1.12, LVM2 1.02.97, Apache 2.4.16, and btrfs-progs 4.1.2 programs have also been included, along with GCC 5 as an optional alternative to GCC 4.8.5, and the YaST stack of SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 Service Pack 1.

Here's what's new in openSUSE Tumbleweed
A day earlier, the openSUSE Project published some details about what's new in the rolling-release version of openSUSE Linux, Tumbleweed. Snapshot 20150831 was released, and it brings with it Perl 5.22, libinput 1.0, python-cryptography 1.0, LibreOffice 5.0.1.2, ExifTool 1.0, and AppArmor 20150828.
In the coming days, most probably by the end of the next week, the recently released KDE Plasma 5.4 desktop environment will make its appearance in the openSUSE Tumbleweed repositories. In the meantime, you can take openSUSE Leap for a test drive right now by downloading the openSUSE 42.1 Leap Milestone 2 ISO images via Softpedia.
Please keep in mind that openSUSE Leap is still in development, which means that it shouldn't be deployed in production environments. The development cycle will continue with the Release Candidate version on October 15, the Goldmaster build on October 30, and the final release on November 4, 2015.
