GNOME 3.23.2 packages are now ready for public testing

GNOME Project's Michael Catanzaro sent us an email earlier today to inform us about the general availability of the second development snapshot of the upcoming GNOME 3.24 desktop environment for Linux-based operating systems.

Given that the release cycle of the current stable version, GNOME 3.22, ended two weeks ago with the announcement of the second and last scheduled maintenance update, versioned 3.22.2, the GNOME developers can now concentrate all of their efforts on the development of GNOME 3.24, which will hit the streets next year on March 22.

"GNOME 3.23.2, the second development release in the GNOME 3.24 cycle, is now available," said Michael Catanzaro in the email announcement. "There is a mistake with the gtksourceview version in the NEWS file as we did not yet include GTK+ 4, but the right GTK+ 3 version is also available in the sources."

There are many updated components in the GNOME 3.23.2 release, and we'll try to cover the new features and major changes of the most important ones shortly after this announcement. However, if you're curious to know what exactly was improved or added, please feel free to study the Core NEWS and Apps NEWS changelogs.

GNOME 3.24 to enter Beta on February 15, 2017

The development cycle of the GNOME 3.24 desktop environment will continue at a fast pace with two such snapshots, namely GNOME 3.23.3 and GNOME 3.23.4, due for release on December 14, 2016, and January 18, 2017, respectively. After that, GNOME 3.24 will enter Beta stages of development right after Valentine's Day, on February 15.

A second Beta milestone should be published on the first day of March, and the RC (Release Candidate) version arrives two weeks later, on March 15, 2017. Until then, you can now help the GNOME devs test drive this second development version, GNOME 3.23.2, by downloading and compiling the jhbuild modulesets available here.
