A fancy, shiny Seagate that lacks any serious performance

Seagate has just added a new family member to its ultra-slim portable HDD lineup with the addition of a new 750GB capacity model.

The new drive is identical with the previous 500GB model already on the market. Measuring 82 x 122.5 x 7mm is one of the slimmest 750GB HDDs currently on the market. To achieve the very slim form factor, a metallic cover has been pressed on one of the sides while the other side had insulating metal sheet.

According to Techpowerup.com, the new HDD comes with a USB 3.0 host interface, with a single cable that supplies both power and connectivity.

Not much is officially known about the new tech specs about the new Seven 750GB, except its storage size and USB 3.1 connectivity. We can speculate, however, on the previous 500GB device specs and see what Seagate offered this time. The new HDD is basically an exFAT-formatted disk drive that works just fine on any Mac or Windows device.

Just a bit bigger than its previous 500GB smaller sibling

The USB 3.0 connectivity is the same on the new Seven from the older 500GB version which had a 101.2MBps read and 102.3MBps write, which is basically less than half the performance of the Seagate Backup Plus Fast (228.6MBps read; 229.4MBps write), and even a bit slower than the G-Drive Mobile (123MBps read; 122MBps write).

The new drive from Seagate isn't the top end of absolute performance, but it does offer some fancy metallic looks when you need some decent storage space to carry your data. The drive has also the Seagate Dashboard utility software that backs your data and lets you share pics and videos directly with your social media accounts. The drive also arrives with a new three-year warranty, which is great for an HDD in its class.

Overall, this is a neat-looking HDD built for business-class laptops and environments, but it suffers from a sever lack of performance that might put down many hard disk enthusiasts. If you'd go ahead with it for a price that would be more expensive than the previous Seven 500GB at $99, then that's the hard disk for you.
