Scribus remains the number one open-source, cross-platform, and free desktop publishing software, and the latest release further advances the work towards the upcoming major version, Scribus 1.6.0.

Scribus 1.5.2 arrives today after being in development for the past three months, during which the development team behind the open-source DTP software managed to improve the HiDPI (High Dots Per Inch) support for the canvas rendering functionality, as well as to implement a new configuration section for the built-in Autosave and File Recovery system.

Additionally, they also managed to rewrite Scribus' text layout engine from scratch, preparing it for the upcoming integration of support for advanced scripts for the Hindi, Hebrew, Chinese, and Arabic languages, which should arrive in the coming months as part of the Scribus 1.5.3 release. This work could not have been possible without the contributions from the House of Open Source Technology team.

Scribus' Resource Manager received great improvements

The Resource Manager component of the Scribus open-source desktop publishing software received several improvements as well, and it looks like it is now capable of verifying the resource downloads from the project's servers using SHA256 checksums. Also, a bunch of UI (User Interface) enhancements landed for the Resource Manager, as you can see from the screenshot below.

Thanks to these improvements, Scribus 1.5.2 now offers users direct access to over 300 color palettes in the LAB color space, from the Open Colour Systems Collection, most of which are distributed under a commercial license. "We would like to thank DTP Studio Oldenburg and the initiative freieFarbe for making these color palettes available under a CC license," said the Scribus devs in the announcement.

Last but not least, Scribus 1.5.2, which our readers can download right now for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems, adds multiple stabilization improvements for the text features introduced as part of the 1.5.0 development release, in order to prepare the software for the upcoming text layout system, as noted above.
