The development team behind the powerful, cross-platform, free, and open-source Scribus desktop publishing software has been pleased to announce the release and immediate availability for download of Scribus 1.5.1.

Scribus 1.5.1 is the second milestone in the development cycle of the upcoming major, stable release of the software, Scribus 1.6.0, which should be unveiled later this year. Scribus 1.5.0 was the first development snapshot, but it looks like the 1.5.1 release has even more cool stuff in it.

Among the changes, there are now a new and modern icon theme that uses grayscale variants exclusively, support for CIE HLC and CIE L*a*b* color models, support for SwatchBooker's SBZ file format, support for Adobe's Color Book files (ACO) and Swatch Exchange files (ASE), along with the addition of the DOCX and RTF import filters.

"The Scribus Team is very pleased to announce the release of the development version Scribus 1.5.1, which is another major step in the next fully-featured version 1.6.0. In terms of stability, 1.5.1 can be already be regarded as robust," reads the announcement. "User feedback will help us to release a rock-solid version 1.6.0."

Scribus 1.6 will be a rock-solid release

Also new in Scribus 1.5.1 is support for applying background colors for highlighted text, paragraph styles, as well as character styles, the addition of an import filter for FreeHand files (experimental), massive improvements to the PDF import filter, and much better support for LibreOffice and Apache OpenOffice ODT documents.

Moreover, the XPress Tags import filter has been rewritten to support XTG files created with XPress version 3 to 2015, and the font embedding code has also been rewritten, along with the related UI. Then, there's a new option implemented in the Resouce Manager for displaying the license of the respective resources before they are downloaded.

Download Scribus 1.5.1 for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems right now via Softpedia, and don't forget to keep an eye on the development cycle of the free desktop publishing software, as there will be a rock-solid and stable Scribus 1.6 release later in 2016.
