Lumia 1520 now available at AT&T once again

Lumia 1520 is a former flagship of the Windows Phone device lineup, and together with the Lumia 930, it was pretty much the best you could get when looking to become part of Microsoft’s mobile ecosystem.

And although the device will soon turn 3 (it was launched in November 2013), it seems that there’s still hope that it will sell like hot cakes. And with a hefty price, that is.

AT&T has started offering the Lumia 1520 both with and without a contract now that Windows 10 Mobile is available for devices in its lineup, so if you want to buy the 6-inch monster, you can get it right away and upgrade it from Windows Phone to Windows 10 Mobile OTA.

What’s interesting is that AT&T stopped selling the device in April 2015, so it’s kind of surprising to see it becoming available once again this year, nearly 3 years after its launch. And what’s more, it comes with a price that only a few would agree to pay, given its age.

More expensive than a Samsung Galaxy S7

AT&T offers several options, so for example, you can buy the device with a monthly payment of $19.50 for a total period of 30 months for $24.38 a month for the next 24 months. If you don’t want to be tied to a contract, there’s also the option to purchase it outright, but in this case, the device will cost $585.

At this price, the 3-year-old Lumia 1520 is even more expensive than the 3-month-old Samsung Galaxy S7, which is available on Amazon for just $570, so it’s hard to believe that too many buyers will agree to pay that much for the old Windows Phone phablet.

And obviously, if you really want a Windows 10 Mobile device, there’s no reason to go for something that’s so old and expensive because there’s always the option to get a Lumia 950 XL, which isn’t only newer and comes with latest-generation technology, but is also more affordable. Right now, the Lumia 950 XL costs just $475 in Microsoft’s Amazon store.
