The Galaxy Note 7 is officially dead, but the story isn’t over yet. Owners of Galaxy Note 7 smartphones must power down their devices and return them to the place of purchase in order to get another phone or a refund. Return kits were also sent to some Note 7 owners.

Galaxy Note 7 owners have the option to exchange their phones with a Galaxy S7 or S7 edge, as Samsung rushes to boost production of these two smartphones.

The first thing that all Note 7 owners will probably do is to extract data from their phones and transfer it to other smartphones using Samsung’s Smart Switch feature. However, they might encounter some issues.

New software for transferring data to S7 and S7 edge is under development

Samsung introduced a new and powerful note-taking app with the Note 7, one that was filled with all sorts of features and tools, some for the S Pen as well. It had features like Memo, S Note, Action memo and Scrapbook.

It enhanced the smartphone's functionality and the company was really excited by the new Note app and wanted to provide it to other smartphones as well. It might have been a good idea to have done that. A user on Android Central forum encountered some issues when transferring his notes from the Galaxy Note 7 to the Galaxy S7 edge. Apparently, he was unable to select Samsung Notes as the tab was grayed out.

The Galaxy S7 line does have the S Note feature, but it’s a completely different app compared to the Notes on the latest flagship. The user called Samsung Technical Support and a representative confirmed that the two apps aren’t compatible and that Samsung is working on creating new software to extract the Notes from the Note 7 and transfer them to the S7 or S7 edge. The user would be contacted when the software is ready.

Samsung will surely rush to release the new piece of software, considering that users might be reluctant to give up on their information before returning the Galaxy Note 7 back to the company.
