Samsung has released two new smartphones today, the Galaxy J2 (2016) with the new Smart Glow notification system and the Galaxy J Max with its massive display of 7 inches. The latter comes with some decent specs, but its main selling point is surely the large screen.

Just yesterday, we reported that a Samsung smartphone with a 7-inch screen surfaced online, and today, Samsung has decided to release this handset as well. Just like the Galaxy J2 (2016), Galaxy J Max comes with forgettable specs, since the only particularity that would make this smartphone attractive is its 7-inch WXGA TFT LCD display with 1280 x 800 pixel resolution.

The device packs a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and has 1.5GB of RAM. Moreover, it has 16GB of internal memory, and users can expand storage to up to 200GB using a microSD card. In addition, it features an 8MP rear camera, but just 2MP in the front selfie snapper.

Galaxy J Max comes with dual-SIM support and Android 5.1

The smartphone has dual-SIM support, as well as support for 4G with VoLTE, Bluetooth, GPS, and Wi-Fi connectivity options. Battery capacity is quite sufficient at 4,000mAh, and the phone runs Android Lollipop 5.1. It’s quite surprising to see Samsung offer this smartphone with just Android 5.1, considering that Google released Android Marshmallow 6.0 last year, and Android Nougat 7.0 is on its way.

The Galaxy J Max comes pre-loaded with S bike mode and Ultra Data Saving mode, which provides up to 50% mobile data savings so that users can save up on their mobile data. The smartphone is 8.7mm thick.

Considering the handset’s massive display, it will be competing directly against the Xiaomi Mi Max with its 6.44-inch screen and ASUS Zenfone 3 Ultra with its 6.8-inch display. The Galaxy J Max will be available at online retailers and in stores starting this month for the price of about $199.
