The new devices feature bigger Infinity displays

Samsung unveiled on Tuesday two new members of its Galaxy A family of Android-powered smartphones, the 2018 variants of its Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A8+ models.

Inheriting the remarkable ergonomic design of Samsung’s flagship devices, the Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) and A8+ (2018) smartphones feature a dual front camera system (16MP FF f/1.9 and 8MP f/1.9) and a larger Infinity displays. While the Galaxy A8 (2018) model comes with a 5.6-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED screen and 1080x2220 pixels resolution, the Galaxy A8+ (2018) model sports a 6.0-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display, but with the same resolution as the Galaxy A8.

"With the release of the Galaxy A8(2018) and A8+(2018), we’re bringing our customers’ favorite features from our flagship smartphones, such as the Infinity Display and our first Dual Front Camera with Live Focus, to our Galaxy A series, which is already known for its premium design," said Junho Park, Vice President of Global Product Planning, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics.

Technical specifications of Galaxy A8 (2018) and A8+ (2018)

Both devices are powered by an Octa-Core (2.2GHz Dual + 1.6GHz Hexa) processor, and feature 4GB of RAM, though the Galaxy A8+ (2018) model also comes with a 6GB RAM variant. Storage-wise, both models are available in either 32GB or 64GB flavors. On the back, both smartphones come with a 16MP PDAF f/1.7 camera. They also feature Samsung's latest fast charging technologies and USB Type-C support.

Connectivity-wise, Galaxy A8 (2018) and A8+ (2018) boast LTE Cat. 11, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4/5GHz) support, Bluetooth 5.0 LE (Low Energy) up to 2Mbps, NFC, VHT80, 256QAM, ANT+, and GPS with GLONASS and BeiDou support. Accelerometer, barometer, fingerprint, geomagnetic, gyro, hall, proximity, and RGB light sensors are present on both devices, which are powered by Google's Android 7.1.1 Nougat mobile operating system as Samsung still tests Android 8.0 Oreo.

Among other features, we can mention Always On Display to keep you informed at all times, Samsung Pay support, Samsung Gear VR headset support, and IP68 water (up to 1.5 meters of fresh water for up to 30 minutes) and dust resistance. As expected, Galaxy A8 (2018) features a smaller 3,000mAh battery and Galaxy A8+ (2018) a bigger 3,500mAh battery. They will be available in early January 2018 in four colors, including Black, Blue, Gold, and Orchid Grey.
