Samsung has decided to recall 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7 units due to battery issues that caused the phones to overheat and catch fire. The phone maker has yet to commence shipments of safe Note 7 units and it seems that it will mark safe phones in a certain way.

It was previously said that safe Galaxy Note 7 units would come with an S mark in a white circle on the packaging, to indicate that the smartphone is part of the replacement batch. While this is a good way to reassure consumers that the new phones are indeed safe, people don't actually carry the retail box with them.

Samsung has thought of a way to let authorities know that a certain Note 7 is safe, especially since the FCC has issued a warning, urging all airplane passengers not to charge their Note 7 phones during flights. In addition, the New York MTA and New Jersey Transit also warned people to power off and refrain from charging Galaxy Note 7 smartphones while on the bus or train for fear of other incidents.

Safe Note 7 units will come with a green battery icon

Samsung has apparently decided to use a green battery icon in safe Galaxy Note 7 phones, according to ZDNet. It's unclear at this point if the green hue will be visible at all times or only when the phone is charging.

Apparently, Android Central reported that safe units shipped to the US don't come with the green battery icon. This leads us to believe that maybe the green hue might be used only in Korea. Earlier this week, we reported that Samsung was working on an OTA update for Galaxy Note 7 smartphones, one that would prevent the battery from charging to more than 60%.

This way, the battery wouldn't overheat and there would be fewer incidents reported, considering that a recent survey showed that people are reluctant to exchanging their phones and are still using Note 7 units.
