14 DAY TRIAL // Samsung continues to thrive on multiple market segments, not just the smartphone sector. The latest information reveals that the South Korean company will be supplying Xiaomi, LeEco, and Oppo with dual camera modules to implement on their upcoming handsets.
Information coming from Korea Herald indicates that a division of Samsung will be supplying dual camera modules to Xiaomi, LeEco, and Oppo, starting next month. Samsung Electro Mechanics is said to provide dual camera modules for the Xiaomi Mi 5s, but the company already supplies single camera modules to the Chinese.
Aside from Xiaomi, Samsung also intends to offer such dual camera modules to LeEco, former LeTV company. LeTV plans to enter the US market later this year, and smartphones with dual cameras on the back could be quite perfect for capturing the attention of consumers.
Samsung will supply dual camera modules to Oppo as well
Samsung will also be providing dual camera modules to Oppo, which is the fourth largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. The company rose to this position in Q1 2016, after it sold 18.5 million units.
Analysts say that this move could help reduce Samsung Electro Mechanics' reliance on Samsung Electronics. Last year, 61.8% of the firm’s sales depended on Samsung Electronics, which meant that the portfolio was higher than any other Samsung affiliates', like Samsung Display or SDI.
The move to supply dual camera modules to other smartphone manufacturers seems a bit surprising, considering that Samsung has yet to implement such a camera configuration for its flagship smartphones.
However, recent rumors point to the fact that next year’s Samsung Galaxy S8 will actually come with such a powerful camera on the rear. The upcoming Galaxy S8 is believed to also pack a 4k display and possibly a Snapdragon 830 SoC. Other reports suggest that the Galaxy Note 7 might have a dual camera module on the back.
