Samsung Pay is the South Korean’s mobile payments platform that’s only available on Samsung’s Galaxy line of Android smartphones. However, it seems that Samsung is working towards launching Samsung Pay Mini which will be available on third-party Android and iOS smartphones.

The main motivation behind the South Korean company’s decision to launch Samsung Pay Mini regards the fact that Samsung Pay isn’t that popular among Galaxy phone owners.

ETNews reported that the payments screen doesn’t always appear unprompted in Samsung Pay service and when wishing to make a payment, users must remember which credit or debit card they’ve linked to the service.

It seems that Samsung Pay Mini will be more fluent and will function like a digital wallet. This means that after completing payments in online stores or apps, details will automatically populate fields, so that users won’t have to. The service will also save a copy of every completed transaction.

Samsung Pay Mini won’t come with MST payments

However, due to technical reasons, Samsung Pay Mini won’t come with magnetic secure transaction or MST payments. The feature requires special hardware and allows smartphones to interface with legacy credit card readers by emitting a wireless signal. The MST tool is available on Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.

Samsung Pay Mini aims to become a stronger competitor to Apple’s Pay service and GPay, a similar service that could be launched by LG in the second quarter of 2016.

Samsung Pay Mini will reportedly be launched in the form of an app for Android smartphones running Marshmallow 6.0 or newer versions. It will also work on iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad devices running iOS or newer.

It is rumored to launch in June and Samsung might also make a version of the service available for Windows and OS X.
