And what’s more, only some markets are going to get it

Samsung is getting ready to launch the Galaxy Note 8 later this month, and it looks like the company is once again favoring some markets, detrimental to others that won’t get the same powerful specs and accessories.

A new report reveals that Samsung plans to sell the Galaxy Note 8 with a free transparent plastic case in the box, but only in a number of markets, including Korea. ETNews writes that customers in Europe, Russia, and the United States won’t get the case, though they will be allowed to purchase it separately for as low as $17.

Offering a cheap plastic $17 case for a device that is expected to cost more than $1,000 is an approach that certainly makes some people raise an eyebrow, especially because this case won’t be available in all markets, but on the other hand, it’s probably a good way to help customers protect their smartphones right after opening the box for the very first time.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 specs

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will come with a 6.3-inch SuperAMOLED display with 1440x2960 pixels resolution and 18.5:9 aspect ratio, which means it’ll be only slightly larger than the 6.2-inch screen on the Galaxy S8+.

Power will come from the same choice of two processors depending on the market, namely Exynos 8895 in international markets and the Snapdragon 835 in the United States, and RAM will reach 6GB, as it is the case of the Korean version of the S8.

As compared to the existing S8+, however, Samsung will offer a dual-camera system, with the fingerprint sensor still placed on the back in an awkward place. There’ll be a 3,300 mAh battery featuring wireless and fast charging thanks to a USB Type-C connector.

The display will stick with the same approach as on the S8 with nearly invisible bezels, so the cheap plastic case should come in handy at first, though we all know that not shattering the screen as a result of a drop is just pure luck with today’s smartphones.
