14 DAY TRIAL // Samsung is reportedly working hard on a new Exynos processor, as recent reports suggest that the company has already started testing the new unit. Exynos 8895 is said to be built on the 10nm process with a 30% performance increase compared to its predecessor, Exynos 8890.
The report comes from Weibo, via PhoneArena, and it shows that test batches have hit speeds of 4GHz, but some say that the performance will be limited for retail smartphones. The 10nm process is supposed to come with a boost in speed, as is power efficiency, so battery consumption shouldn't be a concern.
In addition, Exynos 8895 will reportedly have the same power consumption peak of 4GHz as compared to the upcoming Snapdragon 830 at 3.6GHz, without overheating being a problem.
Samsung Galaxy S8 could come with Exynos 8895
The information should be taken with a grain of salt, considering that Samsung hasn't made any official mention of this new processor. Still, the company might be preparing this new Exynos 8895 processor for the upcoming Galaxy S8, which is said to debut early next year.
Speaking of the Galaxy S8, we reported yesterday that the next Samsung flagship might come with only a dual-edge display variant, as the company might actually stop releasing flat screen versions of its premium phones.
Th Galaxy Note 7 comes with Exynos 8890 built on 14nm nodes while performance reaches 3GHz. Samsung's Exynos processor competes directly against Qualcomm's Snapdragon SoCs, with the latest being Snapdragon 821, built on its predecessor, SD 820. SD821 comes with a 10% boost in performance, and it brings enhanced power saving and increased application performance.
Earlier today, we've reported that MediaTek has also released the Helio X30 chipset built on the same 10nm process. The new processor comes with a total of ten cores and has the capacity to support 8GB of RAM and the latest UFS 2.1 standards for internal storage.
