Tomorrow, Samsung plans on unveiling its newest flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S8 and S8+, but it seems that the company just can’t catch a break. A Samsung store in Singapore caught fire this morning, causing neighboring shops in the mall to close temporarily for safety and cleaning.

Samsung confirmed the incident and stated that the store caught fire early in the morning, before opening hours. No one was hurt during the fire at the Samsung Experience Store at AMK Hub, as the fire was extinguished by water sprinklers.

Samsung officials added “We are currently assessing the property damage and working closely with the authorities to determine the cause of the fire.” It’s surely an unfortunate turn of events, as Samsung is preparing to host the Unpacked event in New York and London tomorrow to announce its newest flagship phones.

Fire broke out at Galaxy S8 battery supplier’s factory

Earlier this year, a fire started at Samsung’s battery supplier for the Galaxy S8. Samsung SDI’s factory in China caught fire because of lithium batteries inside the production workshops and some half-finished products.

No one was hurt and the fire was quickly extinguished, but it did put the company in an unfavorable light, considering that investigation results on the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco were made public just a few days prior to the incident.

Unfortunately for the company’s image, Samsung has been associated with fires ever since Galaxy Note 7 phones started overheating and going up in flames. Following an extensive investigation that took months to complete, Samsung concluded that battery defects were behind the incidents and assured everyone that it put several safety checks in place.

The reason behind the fire at Samsung’s store in Singapore is currently unknown, but it displeases the South Korean company, as any association with fires so close to the Unpacked event remind consumers of last year’s Note 7 fiasco.
