Samsung’s latest flagship has certainly made an impression on the market with its powerful specs and the inclusion of an iris scanner. However, due to unprecedented registrations, the South Korean company recently announced that it would delay the release of the smartphone in certain markets.

Yesterday, we reported that the South Korean company informed us that shipments of the Galaxy Note 7 would be delayed due to quality testing. While the company didn’t specifically say that such quality tests were connected to faulty components inside the handset, several worrying reports have surfaced online.

Some users have stated that they Galaxy Note 7 units caught fire while charging with the original Samsung charger. The situation seems quite worrying since the units were rendered unusable after such incidents, and it would appear that they were reported in various countries, including South Korea and the US.

Samsung SDI, a sister company of Samsung Electronics, is the battery supplier for the Galaxy Note 7. The company has stated for Reuters that it received no information suggesting that the batteries supplied for the Note 7 were faulty.

Shipments have been delayed at major carriers in South Korea

Truth be told, the incidents could be related to a specific batch of units or third-party chargers could have been used when charging those units. For now, there’s no way of telling what exactly caused the Galaxy Note 7 units to catch fire, but it is a serious enough matter for Samsung to start investigating and do extra tests on its units.

The delays in shipments will surely have a negative impact on Galaxy Note 7 sales, despite the high number of pre-orders that the model recorded. Reports say that shipments were delayed in South Korea at all major carriers, including SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus Corp. Samsung hasn’t mentioned which countries will be affected by delayed shipments, and the company will surely make an announcement when the matter is resolved.
