Information that Samsung is working on an upcoming flip phone has been surfacing for some time now, and some images and specs have even been revealed in the past few weeks. Indeed, the successor to last year’s W2016, the Samsung W2017, was spotted on benchmarking sites recently and the smartphone even received FCC certification.

SamMobile spotted the Samsung W2017 at the FCC, where the device received certification. The listing suggests that the phone, codenamed Veyron, might be very close to launching to the market.

For those who don't know, the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is the agency that approves new smartphones before they’re officially launched to the market.

The upcoming W2017, codenamed Veyron, is rumored to launch in China, but the FCC certification could suggest that the smartphone might be made available in the US as well, but this is just speculation at this point. Its predecessor, the W2016, was released in China where Samsung found a market for flip phones, sp it’s quite unsure if the South Korean company will decide to make it available to US customers as well.

Samsung W2017 might come with a 2,300mAh battery

The FCC listing does provide some information on the upcoming smartphone, mainly that it will come with a 2,300mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 for charging it faster. The smartphone could also run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box.

Recent benchmark listings have shown that the W2017 will have a 4.2-inch Super AMOLED display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. In addition, the smartphone might run one of the latest processor models from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 820 SoC.

It might also have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The fingerprint scanner will be located at the back of the smartphone, together with a heart rate monitor. Rear camera capacity might reach 12MP, coupled with a 5MP front selfie snapper.

The device might come with USB Type-C port and support for Samsung Pay. It will also have Samsung’s Always On Display feature and is said to have a price tag of about $1,498 upon its release in China.
