Samsung says you should read the manual before anything

Yesterday, we brought you some disquieting news about the brand new Samsung Galaxy Note5, which was found to come with an important design flaw.

Apparently, inserting the S Pen backwards into the slot is extremely easy, and the big problem is that, in doing so, one will end up damaging the S Pen recognition mechanism.

This will render the S Pen functionality useless, although the Galaxy Note5 will remain functional. But given that the stylus is an important part of the Galaxy Note5 experience, not being able to take advantage of it constitutes a major loss.

So what does Samsung have to say about the newly identified problem? Well, the company is aware of the issue, but it doesn’t really have a fix for it simply because it never thought that inserting the pen the other way around would pose a risk to the well-functioning of the device.

Read the manual before you use the Galaxy Note5, says Samsung

So Samsung’s official stance on the matter is to read and take into account what the user manual says (as seen at The Verge).

“We highly recommend our Galaxy Note5 users follow the instructions in the user guide to ensure they do not experience such an unexpected scenario caused by reinserting the S Pen the other way around,” the company says.

The manual is pretty straightforward about how you should utilize the S Pen, saying that you need to “push it inward to release it and then pull it from the device using the notch on the end of the S Pen.”

It’s a little bit odd that Samsung didn’t think that inserting the stylus in the wrong direction could become an issue. As we already told you yesterday, the Galaxy Note 4 makes it a lot more difficult to push the S Pen into its slot backwards, providing enough resistance for the user to figure out that something is wrong.

Nevertheless, given that the issue has been highly mediatized, users of the new Galaxy Note5 should consider themselves warned and will hopefully pay extra attention when trying to insert the S Pen back into its slot.
