Samsung is expected to release the upcoming Galaxy Note 7 in about a week, but the company is also working on other exciting projects. One of them is Project Dream or Galaxy S8. Rumors about the device have been surfacing online for some time now, and they all point to a 4k UHD display as far as its specs are concerned.

Word is that Samsung could be working on the Galaxy S8 flagship, which might launch around MWC 2017 next February, according to TechTastic. The smartphone bears the codename Project Dream, and some say that the Dream name might hint at Google's Daydream VR platform.

Google announced Daydream VR platform for Android during Google I/O this May, but the company has yet to release it to manufacturers and game developers in order to create VR applications. The platform contains a unified set of specifications and programming interfaces, aside from the fact that devices require specific components, including a suite of sensors, to make it work.

Samsung's Galaxy S8 would be Google Daydream-compatible

Judging by leaked specs, Samsung is creating the Galaxy S8 with Daydream in mind, since the smartphone is said to sport a 4K display, which would make it compatible with Google's platform.

There's not much information on the Galaxy S8, aside from the fact that the screen would have a 2160 x 3840 pixel resolution. Samsung has already shown off a prototype of a 5.5-inch 4k AMOLED display with 806ppi, but it's unclear at this point if the prototype will be featured on the Galaxy S8. Some rumors say that the Galaxy S8 may be coming with Snapdragon 830 processor, which has yet to be released.

The current Gear VR uses the current QHD display on the Galaxy S7 and other compatible phones. A report from yesterday stated that Samsung had already released a new Gear VR for the price of €90, but specs and other details are unclear at this point.
