14 DAY TRIAL // Samsung has now resumed the Android 8.1 Oreo rollouts for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones after it halted it last week due to unexpected reboots reported by a limited number of users.
Dutch website GalaxyClub (via SamMobile) reports today that as of this morning the Android 8.1 Oreo software update is once again available for Samsung's Galaxy S8/S8+ smartphones. Samsung halted the update last week after several users who managed to install it reported spontaneous reboots.
Samsung did the right thing to stop the rollout of the Android 8.0 Oreo software update for its flagship devices not to cause mass hysteria among users. The company promised a solution for the issue, which apparently is fixed and users can now safely update their devices to Android Oreo.
According to the release notes, the update improves the overall stability of the devices, fixes various other bugs, and adds all the new features of the Android 8.0 Oreo release from Google, including Picture-in-Picture (PiP), smart text selection, notification dots, Android instant apps, as well as background limits.
Existing Android Oreo users will still have to update
According to GalaxyClub, the G950FXXU1CRB7 Android 8.0 Oreo firmware is now available for the Galaxy S8 and G955XXU1CRB7 for the Galaxy S8+. Those who managed to update their Galaxy S8/S8+ devices to Android 8.0 Oreo before Samsung halting it, will also have to download and install the new firmware.
If you live in the Netherlands and have a Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+, most probably you'll be able to update to Android 8.0 Oreo today. As for other markets, Samsung will probably resume the Oreo rollout in the coming days, so make sure you update your device as soon as you get the notification.
