14 DAY TRIAL // Samsung’s refurbished Galaxy Note 7 has started to appear in China, and listings reveal two models with different battery capacity, according to a report. It was previously believed that the Galaxy Note 7R would feature a smaller battery than the original model, but it seems that Samsung is making an exception for China.
One Galaxy Note 7R model features a battery capacity of 3,200 mAh, smaller than the 3,500mAh battery found on the original Galaxy Note 7 smartphone that was recalled last year.
But the second Galaxy Note 7R variant comes with a battery of 3,500mAh, although it doesn’t have the same issues that caused original models to catch fire and resulted in the device’s discontinuation. Samsung will most likely subject Galaxy Note 7R phones to a series of quality assurance tests to make sure that they don't pose any safety risks.
The Galaxy Note 7R with 3,500mAh could sell for $580 in China
In terms of pricing, one model features a price of $520 in China, while the variant with the higher battery capacity costs $580. It’s also worth mentioning that the Note 7R with 3,500mAh battery is designed for China only, a market where Samsung has seen a decline over the years, falling to the 6th position, behind local smartphone manufacturers.
It was believed that Samsung could sell the refurbished Galaxy Note 7 for about $620 in Korea, but the price could actually be as low as $443, according to local reports. It remains to be seen whether Samsung will actually sell the Galaxy Note 7R for 50% of the price of the original Galaxy Note 7.
Samsung will most likely announce pricing and availability soon, as some say that the Note 7R could arrive in Korea as early as late May, although a release in June would be more likely, seeing how the device still needs to get certification.
Images that accompany the report reveal that Samsung didn’t make any other changes to refurbished models, aside from the fact that it added the letter “R” on the back to designate the refurbished version. All other specs inside the refurbished model should be the same as on the original device.
