It’s common knowledge that Samsung and Apple have been battling for supremacy in the smartphone market, but one more index is here to confirm just that. In short, Samsung is ranked first in the top 1,000 Brands in Asia index, with Apple in second place, followed by Sony. The document analyzes brands, regardless of the consumer markets that they operate in.

Campaign Asia-Pacific and global information and insights provider Nielsen conducted an online survey to find out which brand is ranked first in Asia. The study explored consumer attitudes in 13 markets, namely Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

400 responders from each market contributed with their views for the online study, except for India and China, where 800 and 1,200 respondents, respectively, agreed to participate. The study incorporated 14 major categories, from computer hardware to retail and food, so that the results could reflect user views regardless of the market segment.

Sony is ranked third, followed by consumer goods company Nestle and Panasonic in the next positions. In addition, Nike snatched the 6th position, followed by LG Electronics, Cannon, Chanel, and Adidas. Google was in position 13 while Facebook only 18th.

Samsung has been the top brand in APAC for the past five years

Samsung has ranked first in the past five years, and it seems that the South Korean company shouldn’t worry about its supremacy in APAC (Asia-Pacific) markets. Apple’s popularity among consumers started threatening Samsung back in 2011 and still follows the South Korean company closely in the index, but only from the second place for now.

In fact, Apple has managed to snatch the second position this year, bumping Sony to the third place. Samsung’s supremacy isn’t surprising, considering that the company manages to provide devices for all consumer categories but outright shined in the smartphone market segment this year, with the release of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.

It will be interesting to see if Apple’s launch of the iPhone 7, scheduled for later this year, will manage to impact next 2017’s study or if Samsung will manage to shift the attention to its Galaxy Note 7.
