Samsung’s Galaxy S8+ is proving to be more popular than previously anticipated, and the South Korean smartphone maker has decided to increase production levels in order to meet high demand. Reports from the country say that retailers placed orders for more units than Samsung previously expected.

The Galaxy S8+ has received positive early reactions from retailers, which placed orders for more units than Samsung initially anticipated. In order to meet high demand, Samsung upped production levels for the Galaxy S8+, which now makes up 45% of the total Galaxy S8 units.

Initial estimations revealed that the Galaxy S8+ would make up 40% of all produced units, with 60% representing the Galaxy S8. Furthermore, Samsung could increase Galaxy S8+ production levels even more, depending on the number of pre-orders, which have been live for several days now. Pre-ordered smartphones will start shipping on April 21, providing Samsung with enough time to adjust its stock of handsets.

The Galaxy S8+ will most likely surpass the S7 edge sales

By comparison, last year’s Galaxy S7 edge made out 30% of the initial production volume, but the ratio was increased to 70% at the end of 2016, after demand increased rapidly. As opposed to last year’s Galaxy S flagships, the two Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones differ only in terms of display and battery size.

Samsung spent a big chunk of its $10 billion marketing budget last year on promoting the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge during the holiday shopping period, especially after the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco.

The larger S8+ has a 6.2-inch display, compared to the more compact 5.8-inch Galaxy S8, while both phones come with curved Infinity Displays. The phablet-sized screen on the S8+ allows more content to be displayed, which apparently pleases consumers.

Samsung is currently preparing an initial batch of 20 million Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ units for the April 21 worldwide launch, which translates into double the volume made available last year for the launch of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge.
