The sensor’s lens should feature a wide, f/1.4 aperture

Although both Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge come with pretty good rear cameras, fans have been expecting miracles from the smartphones’ 12-megapixel photo snappers.

Some say that a bigger sensor would have made the Galaxy S7’s camera much better while others complain that it’s the number of megapixels that drags down the camera’s performance.

Well, it looks like Samsung is about to reconcile with both types of customers since the South Korean company is rumored to work on a completely new camera that will features a higher number of megapixels than Galaxy S7's, as well as a larger sensor.

The folks over at PhotoRumors claim the South Korean handset maker plans to launch a new 1/1.7-inch CMOS camera sensor with an aperture as wide as f/1.4.

An additional compact 1/2.3-inch camera sensor is in the works too

But that’s not all, as the new CMOS camera sensor is expected to feature a resolution of between 18 and 24 megapixels. Moreover, Samsung is also trying to include a new compact 1/2.3-inch camera sensor inside its smartphones.

If the rumors prove to be accurate, then Samsung’s next flagship device could pack a brand new camera that will have double the number of megapixels the Galaxy S7 camera includes. On top of that, the larger camera sensor will enable users to take much better pictures in low-light conditions, as well as photos with less noise and much more details.

However, with the increase of the camera sensor, we’re also expecting the camera module to become bigger than the 12-megapixel module on the Galaxy S7.

This could mean that the camera bump will be part of Samsung handsets once again, but that shouldn’t be an issue especially for those who love to take very good pictures with their phones.

Since Samsung couldn’t put its own camera sensor on all Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge units, we doubt that will happen with the next flagship that will feature the larger CMOS sensor the company is now working on. Hopefully, Samsung will find a viable solution to provide customers with the same advanced photography features.
